To meet the needs of an aerospace client, we precision CNC milled this aluminum shim which was intended for use in an assembly application. We designed and manufactured the custom fixtures for the milling operations, and then CNC milled a mill taper. Secondary operations included deburring and part marking the part number onto the shim using an ink-jet part marking machine.
The 2024-T3 aluminum CNC milled part was primed and anodized with a chromic acid finish. It measured 0.400 long, 0.240 wide and 0.020 to 0.100 high and performed dimensional inspections. In nine weeks, we produced 46 of the aluminum shims and worked from customer-supplied prints and a 2D CAD drawing.
