Shimco Returns to the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition

Peter Voss, Shimco’s President and CEO at JA2016

The 2018 edition will be held November 28-30 at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre.

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, November 19, 2018 – Shimco, an award-winning, world-wide leader in the manufacture of precision parts and gap-management solutions will join the Canada Pavilion and exhibit at the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2018 (JA2018), the largest aerospace exposition in Japan. The event will be held November 28-30 at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre, with the Canada Pavilion as one of the top 3 foreign country pavilions at the show in booth 7319.

With previous participation in 2012 and 2016, Shimco’s President and CEO Peter Voss returns to JA2018 to present the company’s gap management solutions for aerospace, space and defense, in addition to the launch of its new IntelliShim technology: wireless sensors for Diagnostic and Prognostic Health Monitoring. These patent-pending, self-powered sensors will be incorporated into airframes, engines and landing gear, to wirelessly transmit data on load, stress, vibration and temperature, as well as data on potentially critical abnormal events, all in real-time.

Shimco’s IntelliShim will be completely wireless (no wires in or out). The major benefits of this new technology will be the elimination of heavy wire harnesses and their related maintenance issues, placement of these sensors on or in moving parts, and placement in significantly more locations than conventional sensors can go. The goal of Shimco’s IntelliShim is to make aerospace’s hardware safer and truly smart.

“With the Japanese market as the largest aerospace industrial market in Asia, this is an important show for Shimco to return to,” said Voss. “We have a partnership with Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Japan and very significant contracts with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries here in Canada, in addition to other Japanese OEM suppliers.

“This show also provides an excellent platform to present our innovative development in wireless sensors, initially designed for the Diagnostic and Prognostic Health Monitoring market. We are also looking for additional commercial partners for specific application developments in DPHM and other markets.”

As part of the Canada Pavilion activities, Voss will participate in business-to-business meetings, the Asia Aircraft Supply Chain Forum, to be held November 27 at the Tokyo Big Sight, and the Canada networking reception on November 28.

Hosted by the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (SJAC), the Japan Aerospace Show provides a good opportunity to access the latest activities and technologies in the Japanese market, and to gain visibility in the Japanese procurement community and beyond. JA2018 is expected to attract approximately 800 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors, including engineers, researchers, designers, manufacturers, purchasing department managers, company executives, academics and government officials.
